![]() ![]() As for 4/8, no need to sell me on that one! I consider that version one of their greatest, most eloquent, organically coherent, improvised masterpieces ever, and merits them a place in musical history. Re DS: I think the 4/14 DS on tape is one of the greats, albeit maybe a bit short for what I prefer, and I already have the wild Good Lovin sequence on CD that was included as bonus on the Europe 72 rerelease. Since you know the NFA->GDTRFB->NFA from both 5/3 and 5/26.Question: I hear that you rate those as top 1 and 2, but might the one from 4/14 also a possible contender for the incredibly high-energy (and lengthy one) I once heard? Or is that no comparison? Hey, thank you very much for the guidance re: NFA question (and others who weighed in, too). As for the Best DS of the tour, I'd point you to 4/8 Empire pool (although 4/14, 4/24, and 5/11 are nipping at its heels.). The whole show is top-shelf, and if you're looking to purchase an official release form the epic Euro '72 tour, I would lead you to this before all others. A stellar show all around (my overall favorite of the tour), the NFA medley was all but forced by the audience during the first set! The rowdy Dead Audience (by European standards, that is) begin the clap that signifies the opening beat, and the boys oblige them by launching into an eighteen minute power-house version that delivers the goods. See more details about this release The individual shows April 7, 1972, Wembley Empire Pool, London A 3 CD set of music from the Apshow. The shows were subsequently available individually. But I think the version you seek is the NFA->GDTRFB->NFA of the last night of the European tour in London, 5/26. Europe 72, The Complete Recordings Limited edition box set release of all shows from the tour. I personally prefer the first night in Paris, 5/3, which is seemingly the night you're not looking for. I was about to obtain 5/11 for the famous Dark Star I also never heard, but frustrated that show has no NFA which is what I'm questing for. Can you folks weigh in on which is the definitive Europe version to get from the official releases? I'm sure there is debate, but I assume there is overlap opinions on the top 2 or 3 to make an assessment. But in the Compendium is says that was the highest-energy ever from the tour, although Donna's parts detract (and based on the rest of that show, maybe that is THE ONE?) The official Volume 2 Europe from 4/7 is supposedly a best of version, but I read reviews otherwise. My other suspicion is that it is from 4/14 - a version which I haven't heard. Can folks tell me the date with this best ever one from the tour? I see one post saying 5/23 is the best, but I wonder if that is the consensus here. And the Deadheads Taping Compendium book intro also refers to one that was probably this greatest one. I thought they said it was from one of the 2 Paris shows, but upon hearing both, it is definitely not these.
